Gluten Intolerance is really GLYPHOSATE POISONING

What if...."gluten intolerance" is really "glyphosate poisoning"?

Gluten has been in wheat since it was first grown. Sure, there have always been folks who have problems digesting wheat or grains with gluten. Today, about 50% of the world have problems with gluten. (1) Something has changed.

That "something" is glyphosate.

Glyphosate has only been on this planet since Monsanto patented it as "Roundup" in 1973. This chemical herbicide goes by 32 or more tradenames and, now that the patent protection expired in 2000, is made by nine chemical companies -- most of whom, not coincidentally, are also in the drug business. Over 200 million pounds of it is used all over the world every year. That's 100,000 tons! Roundup brings in half of Monsanto's yearly profits. Like vaccines, each manufacturer can add its own extra ingredients called adjuvants or surfactants. Some data suggests that the adjuvants are even more toxic than the glyphosate. (2)

The original use of glyphosate was to prevent weeds. Somewhere along the way, it was discovered that a pre-harvest spraying of glyphosate directly onto the crops made for an easier harvest, as it desiccates the material. WHEAT and CANE SUGAR are the two foods most often treated in this manner. What foods have wheat and sugar? Take a walk down the cereal aisle, the one with the pretty boxes that beckon to your children. See the cookies, crackers, breads, cakes -- all those things that have gluten -- as well as a double dose of glyphosate.

Nice.

And I really, really mean "nice." Etymology: Middle English, foolish, wanton, from Old French, from Latin nescius ignorant, from nescire not to know.

Monsanto applied for the patent on glyphosate with full knowledge that it worked by blocking the shikimate pathway of plants and certain bacteria. Therefore, since people are not plants or bacteria, glyphosate must be safe, they told the FDA.

What Monsanto did not disclose is that the bacteria in a human gut all have shikimate pathways. This is huge. Without gut bacteria, people become very ill and malnourished, develop antibodies to their own organs, mentally depressed, full of yeast and other pathogenic bacteria, and mineral deficient. Nerve transmission fails and energy is gone. The mind cannot focus. Children get labeled at school as having behavior problems. Adults think they are crazy and run to the Prozac. This could only have happened if the scientists at Monsanto and FDA are malevolent and the worst sort of facinorous psychopaths. They are not nice guys, not ignorant of their deeds; let us call them what they are: Murderers.

I submit: You do not have gluten intolerance; that is a symptom. You have been poisoned by glyphosate, therefore you have GLYPHOSATE POISONING. The first step to healing is calling something what it is. Using euphemisms and hiding wickedness behind medicalese and nebulous diagnoses does no one any good. The guilty go free and the victims are denied proper treatment and timely justice.

I have been a wheat farmer for 50 yrs and one wheat production practice that is very common is applying the herbicide Roundup (glyposate) just prior to harvest. Roundup is licensed for preharvest weed control. Monsanto, the manufacturer of Roundup claims that application to plants at over 30% kernel moisture result in roundup uptake by the plant into the kernels. Farmers like this practice because Roundup kills the wheat plant allowing an earlier harvest.

A wheat field often ripens unevenly, thus applying Roundup preharvest evens up the greener parts of the field with the more mature. The result is on the less mature areas Roundup is translocated into the kernels and eventually harvested as such.

This practice is not licensed. Farmers mistakenly call it “dessication.” Consumers eating products made from wheat flour are undoubtedly consuming minute amounts of Roundup. An interesting aside, malt barley which is made into beer is not acceptable in the marketplace if it has been sprayed with preharvest Roundup. Lentils and peas are not accepted in the market place if it was sprayed with preharvest roundup….. but wheat is ok.. This farming practice greatly concerns me and it should further concern consumers of wheat products.

I went on a wheat and refined sugar free diet before I read your excellent book. I lost 30 lbs in three months. What a remarkable change…… In my 69th year I have never felt better.

Their are up to 50 different Pesticides and Herbicides used for Sugar Cane alone, in the cave man periods sugar or wheat flour was not an essential part of our daily diet. We made it up as we went, essentially because of food commerce production and distribution and its substantial company profits. The three-meal-a-day was implemented in the early centuries as suggestion that our bodies needed ongoing nutrition to sustain our day to day activities, where as you only need to eat a considerable dose entitled to only when your body is feeling sensuously hungry or close to starvation, approximately every 2-3 days. Their is a saying that don't eat anything that your grandmother or your great great grandmother wouldn't recognize as food. Sugar and wheat was breeded into our diet by mainstream food companies who has index and shares in the global supermarket trades. Hakan Bayar Kemal.

Applying Roundup as a dessicant? Insanity! Exposing your GI microbiome to this poison: even more insane, although big Agibiz seems to give us little choice, & eating 100% organic is beyond the financial resources of most folks. On the basis of population genetics, I'd guess 10 to 15% might show genuine gluten-intolerance at the metabolic (and therefore genetic) level, whereas gluten-intolerance as a phenotype is more likely a conglomerate of baseline genotype upon which is superimposed environmental toxicity such as via glyphosate. Logically, if 50% had been truly gluten-intolerant in our evolutionary past, wheat would've never become such an important source of calories.

Excellent!! makes so much sense..I have spent all my life with nausea, headaches and bad digestion thinking I finally found the 'cause' when I was told I was gluten intolerant...I don't think there's a way back because my gut bacteria has been compromised...but I can live normally as long as I do not eat wheat or sugar and I have to use digestive enzymes....

I have believed this for a long time. To test my theory all I have to do is travel and eat at restaurants and I am sick for months. Did you see any statistical anslysis of these results? I used to make scientific charts for a living and it is standard to include statistical significance, especially for a correlational analysis.

Did you pull all of this out of the air? Less than 24% of Monsanto's profits come from chemicals, some which (Roundup for Lawns) contain no glyphosate. The quantity of glyphosate residue in food we eat is minuscule, and most would be destroyed by stomach acids. Stop reading Stephanie Seneff, that lady is nuts.

Interesting, about six months ago I went on a gut curing diet, cut down on all sugars removed 90% of all wheat. Occasionally I indulge trying to be very aware of the source of the wheat products I consume. I have found that I can eat gluten without a problem so long as I only eat the occasional wheat product. Where the benefits have been immense is my cognitive improvements.

I am also diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum with Aspergers, Adhd, motor challenges. However I wasn't diagnosed until I was 49. However throughout my life I abundantly consumed foods high in wheat and particularly sugars, I suffered with a life-time of complex multiple sensory overloads and most likely Alexithymia; albeit never diagnosed. I am becoming aware it is the substances in processed foods that is quite possibly the source of the processes of the majority of my life challenges. What I am certain much of the population are not aware of or, possibly are, but through ignorance just carry on with their dietary lifestyle is that there is processed sugars in savoury foods. I admit I did not realise there was glyphosate in cane sugar. All the more reason to do my best to cut it out of my diet.

However, by making the changes in my diet that I have, although by no means perfect I have noticed a dramatically positive change in my cognitive abilities. Aged 64 as I make changes to food addictions and having to deal with ongoing sensory challenges is by far the most challenging aspect of my lifestyle.

People believe that Autism Spectrum disorders and behaviours are a problem to those who are diagnosed. In my opinion all of these tenuous side effects would be severely reduced even eradicated if glyphosates and similar substances were removed from the diet.

I moved to a foreign country where they do not use pesticides at all. (third world). I lost a size and a half in less than a year, and now I can eat all the bread I want for one. The produce I get is straight from the garden. And I have changed my eating plan of course, but I have become more sedentary and still lost all that weight. When I come back to the states, I feel sick the entire time and am relieved when I go back and eat the food there. I know that I know that the food at home in the states makes me feel like crud. And I have often thought it was due to pesticides.

Monsanto discloses revenue and gross profit by product sector in its SEC filings. A little Google search will show you this. Note that Roundup comes under "agricultural productivity):

Segment Revenue % of Total

Seeds and genomics $10,243 million 68.3%
Agricultural productivity $4,758 million 31.7%

Data source: SEC filings.

As you can see, Monsanto generates substantially more revenue from selling seeds and licensing genetic traits than from selling glyphosate herbicides. The relative importance of each segment holds when one considers gross profits, which are even more heavily skewed in favor of seeds and genomics:

Segment Gross Profit % of Total

Seeds and genomics $6,277 million 76.7%
Agricultural productivity $1,905 million 23.3%

Data source: SEC filings.

Gluten-intolerant people don't react to corn (maize), which is more likely than wheat to be grown with RoundUp in the US. They also can't tolerate organically grown wheat products. So no, I don't think so. You can't just draw two curves, say that they look the same, and therefore A caused B.

You have nothing to worry out! I'm afraid this post is simply propaganda from the anti-science pro naturalistic fallacy crowd with is sadly gaining huge momentum these days :( it has so many red flags. I've done a tear down for you to put your mind at rest and demonstrate all the flaws it contains.

Here's a great extract from an article on glyphosates:
"There is an ideological subculture that is motivated to blame all the perceived ills of the world on environmental factors and corporate/government malfeasance. Often this serves a deeper ideological drive, which can be anti-vaccine, extreme environmentalism, or anti-GMO. The latest environmental bogeyman making the rounds is glyphosate, which is being blamed for (you guessed it) autism."
Or Gluten intolerance is this case...

The rest of the article is here: https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/glyphosate-the-new-bogeyman/

That whole site is a marvelous resource for information about such topics. I've personally met a few of the authors and they wonderful people, invested in fighting the propoganda and lies spread by the pseudo-science community.

Next red flag, is that the blogger is a full anti-vaxxer. And is still posting articles on debunked notions and promoting things like the movie 'vaxxed' the opus of misinformation which was doing the rounds last year. She is obviously ideologically aligned against science, or simply doesn't understand it. People like this really shouldn't be posting scaremongering articles!

Next red flag, the graph. It is interesting how she uses a graph which overlays the gluten intolerance data with glyphosate data. It looks disturbing but is ultimately meaningless and many things can be made to match up like this. Here's a great article which show many examples of this, it even has some amusing graphs showing how organic food causes autism (which it obviously doesn't). It clearly demonstrates how data can be used to trick people:

https://geneticliteracyproject.org/2016/09/22/autism-increase-mystery-solved-no-its-not-vaccines-gmos-glyphosate-or-organic-foods/

And finally, the biggest kicker of all. It is more than likely that there is no such thing as gluten intolerance for people who don't have celiacs disease! Currently, there is a huge industry in gluten free products. They have a vested interested, like all naturalist fallacies businesses to keep perpetuating this myths

https://www.sciencealert.com/scientists-who-found-evidence-for-gluten-sensitivity-have-now-shown-it-doesn-t-exist

Full disclosure: I am pro-science ;)

First of all correlation does not equal causation, if so I got a good case organic food causes autism. Furthermore, round up is not used on wheat exclusively so then why does this "poisoning" only correlate with gluten intolerance?

I wonder Joe if that is because when corn is sprayed, the spray doesn't go directly on the corn. The corn is protected by a husk. Whereas the wheat and sugar cane are exposed to the chemical.

Celiac disease is real, no one is saying that it isn't. The thing is that most people who claim "gluten intolerant" dont have Celiac. They most likely are having adverse reactions to the Glyphosate. This article is not debunking true gluten allergies, its bringing attention to the mass amounts of people who have abnormal reactions to something they are not actually allergic too.

I noticed a strange thing - there were no "eyes" growing out of the few dimples that were on the potato skins. In the last few years, I would get heartburn from potatoes so bad that I simply stopped eating them as much as I had in the past. One day I saw a farmer on the side of the road selling his own home grown potatoes. I bought some and after eating them I didn't get that inevitable heartburn that I expected. Coincidence? No. There is something wrong with most of our flour, potatoes, corn, and meats. When I seek out real food, bad aftereffects are just not there. Lady Nenari, Princess of the Sea said...

I Am more inclined to see that it is both gluten and also the glyphosate poisoning. Why do I say such? Well look at it this way ~ particularly here in this country I live in (Scotland, as well as, England too) have had wheat ie gluten for many hundreds of years LONG before glyphosate came around and still people had loads of health issues such as gout, diabetes (King Henry VIII had both) and also sorts of other things which can be attributed to eating too much gluten and sugar both of which are in breads cakes and such. So to say it is really just the glyphosate rather than gluten is incorrect. The body makes its own gluten in small amounts which fades off as we age, HOWEVER as with anything too much gluten (or anything) overflooding the body and it will have an adverse reaction if not immediately then over time building up and catches up with you with age.

Richard, thank you for doing your research, but you are barking up the wrong tree. The Roundup patent expired in 2000 and now at least nine drug-industry related companies produce glyphosate. Monsanto produces GMO strains of seeds which are termed "Roundup ready" that contain DNA sequences making them immune to Glyphosate. This allows farmers to spray glyphosate over the full field of GMO crop, killing all the weeds, but leaving the crop unhurt. This increases crop yield. So thank you for your research. It makes perfect sense that Monsanto makes most of its revenue from seeds and genomics. The other nine companies provide the glyphosate we consume on these crops, Monsanto provides the vehicle permitting its use. Open your eyes to what the real problem is.

Daniel said...

Sorry, which article are you referring to? The one I posted? Here is the main question I take away from this article, which is up for scientific discussion, in my opinion: does glyphosate affect the gut microbiome, and if so, how? I don't see any peer-reviewed studies about this cited in the references. If I am missing something, I'd be happy to be corrected.

It's pretty clear that we are all ingesting glyphosate in the things we eat, unless we eat only organic food. However, please remember that correlation does not equal causation.

I'd say this falls in the category of "worthy of further study" but I don't see anything like the level of certainty we have about climate change....either way, there are plenty of good reasons to eat only organic food.

What does not matter in this discussion is:

1: the amount of money that Monsanto or anyone else makes on selling glyphosate.

2: the affects of genetic modification, of wheat or anything else. this article is about the affects of glyphosate, not genetic modification.

An aside about potatoes: commercial non-organic potatoes are treated with a sprout-inhibitor so that they don't sprout when exposed to light and warmth. Potatoes that are exposed to light start to get green, and green potato skins can give you a tummy ache. Make of that what you will. Maybe you got a tummy ache because the commercial potatoes could be exposed to light without sprouting, and it's the green skins, not the sprout inhibitor, that makes you feel sick. Just a thought.

A further aside... this discussion would be better served by thinking clearly and talking about the ideas, than by expressing emotional reactions to those who disagree. That goes for all sides. Thank you.

You can argue your points about the good of genetic modification and addition of these poisons all you want, but some of us know that there is a real problem with our food. I'm surprised to see the adamant refusal to admit there is a problem. I have to ask myself why. I'm sure there are many reasons for that to be so or they can be from areas of the country where these products are limited. I grew up on farm fresh foods so maybe my tolerance is a lot lower. I certainly don't attribute it to a little bit of green on a potato or some small inconsequential thing that a normal digestive system could tolerate. When food is engineered to accomplish a certain goal that is purely driven by profit, we will all suffer. That includes the very ones that have bought into the lie that it's all good.

Look into which countries and continents have any significant incidence of Celiac's (as I said, the epidemiological studies) - and then look into whether it is merely untracked, or if i.e. Asia has virtually no Celiac's while American and Europe have lots...

Science and medicine have demonstrated that Hippocrates was right in saying “All disease begins in the gut.” Gluten is a powerful trigger of zonulin release in every single human body regardless of sensitivity. This is the mechanism of how gluten wreaks havoc on our bodies.

When speaking of gluten, you are also speaking of gliadin. Gliadin is a component of gluten that increases intestinal permeability. Gliadin targets the intestinal receptor CXCR3 in the intestinal lumen. When gliadin is present in the intestinal lumen, it binds with the CXCR3 receptor, and this causes a release of zonulin. When zonulin is released, the intestinal lumen increases its permeability.

With this increased permeability, macromolecules such as undigested carbohydrates are able to permeate the intestinal lumen. Dendritic cells, the immune cells that constantly take samples of what is passing through the gut, sample these macromolecules and incidentally tag them as foreign. This is how food intolerance or “allergy” and ultimately autoimmunity starts.

First, the genetically susceptible host immune system recognizes and misinterprets an environmental antigen (digested or partially digested particles incorrectly passing through the gut barrier). Second, the antigen is presented to the gastrointestinal mucosal immune system from the intestinal lumen to the gut submucosa. IN ALL CASES, this increased permeability precedes disease and causes an abnormality in antigen delivery that triggers immune events, eventually leading to a multi organ process and autoimmunity. Thus, genes, environment, and a loss of intestinal barrier function are all necessary in developing autoimmunity.

Autoimmune diseases have been increasing worldwide at an alarming rate since WWII. This pandemic includes more than 80 autoimmune disorders including Crohn’s, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus, type 1 diabetes, psoriasis, Celiac, colitis, and many more. Further, women are significantly more at risk than men to develop autoimmunity and in the US, autoimmunity is one of the top causes of death in females of all age groups. It beats cancer statistically.

Gluten sets off a chain reaction in human bodies that are already in a very susceptible state given the nature of our environment, the stress we constantly live with, the low nutrient content in our food due to poor soil and farming practices, and the amount of pollution, pesticides, and toxic chemicals we are exposed to.

I am not saying glyphosate is safe, what I am trying to point out is that the situation with wheat is far more complicated than a single pesticide.

Re: Gluten Intolerance is really GLYPHOSATE POISONING...

Your correlation does not provide any evidence of causation. One can find correlations between all sorts of things when one does not cause the other: use of IE and murder rates and ice cream sales and murder rates are two good ones. Coeliac disease has an identifiable, genetic cause, and those with coeliac disease are the ones with gluten intolerance (the rest are just FOS).

Please stop spreading misinformation.

I don't know if roundup causes gluten intolerance or not. Where reactions to glyphosate are concerned, Some will react and some won't. I feel that it depends on the condition of the individual's internal defense, the condition of the liver which handles substances that enter the body. eg Mother and adult son, living in the same house, both breathing in the roundup sprays around their home, and this spray is constantly being used as it is used regularly at a large public area right by their home, around trees and edges etc. The son quickly gets really ill from it, and there is no reaction from the mother at all. They both went to the same person to be tested for the levels in their system, and the mother has no levels at all, and the son has high levels. They were also tested for liver functions. He has a weaker liver function than his mother does. Her liver is strong.

When it comes to wheat or gluten intolerances, this is a different matter altogether. The ones who truly suffer from these can't even eat the spray free (organically grown) types. It's a good test to try out for those who react to wheat products. If they don't react badly to the organically grown wheat products, then it must have been the sprays that they were reacting to after all.

As a NY deli owner for over 30 years, I ate hundreds of bagels and 7 to ten grain breads. Stomach problems kept popping up until they were uncontrollable. Now my health is so much better and I hope and pray that the use of this terrible chemical which is poisoning our families will be outlawed. Great article!

And Yes the pharmaceutical companies, mainly Monsanto reap the benefits. We are simply being poisoned in so many ways. I have done my best to be organic at least 95% of the time for the past 13 yrs. I know one can point to many other industries that do- but the question we need to be asking- I think is, where is the sanity in this as our planet is under so many threats and uncertainties? Monsanto is after total dominance of the agricultural seed market. This is the stated goal of this corporation. This corporation seeks to have the use of any other source of seed made illegal by intellectual property law and international trade agreements. Roundup now with 2,4,D is only an adjunct to this goal. The Monsanto Corporation interprets its fiduciary duty as the complete dominance and control of the food seeds modern agriculture uses and the elimination of all traditional non industrialised agriculture.
If you speak against Monsanto you may be charged as colluding to deprive a (corporate person) person of their constitutional and civil rights. Luckily we live in a constitutional republic and not a fascist nation. Right?

And the GMO'd seeds have roundup inside of them, part of the fantastic "improvement" to the plant- no wild animal or animal given a choice will eat the GOM'd corn and soybeans. Not what this article is about, but worth looking into. Roundup is created to kill things, why would it be in any way healthy for us to eat, regardless of anything specifically noticed. You CAN possibly eat wheat and sugar again. There is a blood test you can take that shows food intolerances. If you remove these foods for six months and heal what is probably leaky gut - there is a good chance you can go back to eating fairly normal again. I'm 43 and doing this more for my daughter than for me. She vomits with too much dairy and gluten. I have a bloating and big d problem that I figured I would just have for the rest of my life. I began being DF & GF and my symptoms went away for a while. I went to another integrative medicine doctor recently asking why I'm still symptomatic again even though I'm DF/GF and she told me about leaky gut. For complete confirmation of this diagnosis, you can do a stool analysis. There is a chemical that shows up that's an indicator of leaky gut. Bloodwork is another tell tale sign - if there's a ton of foods that show up as being problematic - that's not normal. There shouldn't be any that show up on that test. I have about 100. If I can heal my gut, then maybe my 10 year old has hope of eating normally again too. There is hope. Not easy, but it's within reach.

I went to Italy when I was six months pregnant, as a gluten intolerant person and got so sick that I thought I was in early labor. I nearly passed out from the pain, my husband had to hold me up. I cannot eat wheat at all no matter where I am so this theory about Europe does not seem correct to me. Eat clean everyone. If you don't know the ingredient on the package, don't buy it. Eat non GMO foods. I was told that anything at Trader Joe's that has a Trader Joe's label on it is a Non GMO based product. Going to restaurants, friends' houses, etc.. it is so difficult to maintain a healthy gut. After growing up with severe stomach problems, I will most likely never be fully healed. However I do take a product that helps a ton: L -Glutamine. You can take it in powder form which is most beneficial for helping to soothe the gut. Watch out for vodkas made of wheat and don't forget. Gluten Free is not necessarily 100% gluten free, even your communion wafer!

If you read previous comments, Italy apparently still imports it's wheat from the US--once the US Midwest was known as the "bread basket of the world" (we have a major museum, downtown Minneapolis Minnesota), commerating those years, 1930's thru 60's)--we provided (then) wholesome wheat and other products but, alas, the US is a capitalist country first, big corporate greed has taken over the agriculture world. I am guessing most European countries no longer import wheat from the US but Italy still does, hence, you suffered--it is dangerous life-threatening stuff this glyphosate. Roundup (MONSANTO & CARGILL) is the first product introduced promoting this herbicide using glyphosate and on the shelves big time for domestic, back yard use as well and dominating the agri-world.

Same, Juli: No gluten: no heartburn, no psoriasis. According to Dr. D'Adamo, "Eating Right for Your Blood Type", "O" Blood types do not tolerate the gluten lectin and should limited their diet to 5%. The Germans introduced a short wheat in 1965 that gave better yields due to its ability to withstand strong winds in fields, so by 1985, 85% of the wheat produced was this type. It also has a higher gluten content. Pizza dough is very high in gluten and the source of much heartburn not the pepperoni, garlic or tomato sauce that I thought was the problem. I do not have CD but did have cancer which I believe was a result of taking so many antacids and proton pump inhibitors to curb the heartburn. This rendered me unable to absorb minerals or digest proteins. If I stay away from gluten, I'm good.

(Source: http://pmep.cce.cornell.edu/profiles/extoxnet/dienochlor-glyphosate/glyphosate-ext.html)

WHY don't people read the toxicological profiles and doing their research PROPERLY BEFORE sharing???

Furthermore, per Dr. Seneff (who is now under investigation by MIT's Office of the Vice President of Research for possible misconduct in research by one of their faculty members), in her paper "Glyphosate pathways to modern diseases VI: Prions, amyloidoses and autoimmune neurological diseases.", she essentially writes that glyphosate is used everywhere, on everything.

Therefore; if THAT is true, and glyphosate IS the cause of the problem, then you should be developing something akin to coeliac disease to strawberries, for example, IF the claim that glyphosate RESULTS in gluten sensitivity/coeliac disease.

So, either you're telling me that strawberries have gluten in them, (so that you can have a coeliac HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8 (found at genetic chromosome locus 6p21.32) activation), or that if glyphosate is the responsible culprit, then you should be getting that reaction with EVERYTHING that has glyphosate on it (which, again, according to Dr. Seneff, paraphrased, is everything).

Funny how they don't mention ANYTHING about the genetic component in regards to gluten sensitivity on chromosome 6.

For the people out there who think non gmo doesn't have glyphosate in it you are wrong wrong wrong. Non-gmo does not equal organic.
And certified organic comes in many levels. If you want to know how well the products you are eating are certified and tested for chemical contaminants, that is... if they are organic…Go to the companies that market those products. Look at their certification and regulatory practices information. Our government has a baseline standard for what is considered a certified organic. Just like anything you buy, you can get different qualities and different practice standards. FDA approved...certified organic...read up!
Many non gmo crops are using pesticides and herbicides.
Personally, I'll take gmo over toxic chemicals any day. Mendelian peas were gmo...no biggie, give me a huge bouquet of the flowers. Most tomatos in the supermarket are gmo, load me up! Spray them with glyphosate...no thanks. If you want to eliminate this crap you are going to have a hard time and you will need to be vigilant. But making better choices, educated choices most of the time, this can help. And if you insist on clean products, suppprt organic farmers, you will drive up the demand and these companies will have to change. It's basic microeconomics. We hold the power...

Here's a nice piece of info showing you what crops are being sprayed with glyphosate and what percentages of those crops. Surprisingly berries are low (ish)… We've heard so many times that non organic strawberries are the worst for chemicals right? Looks like nuts especially pistachios and almonds, all citrus and fruits (look ar figs!) are among the worst crops. I think about how much of each of these products you eat and if you can calculate how much you're getting. Look at the ppb charts that are out there. If you're eating certified organic grains, gluten free or no grains at all and still having negative effects, it makes sense. Use your noggin! Good luck and good health.

Yes glyphosate has many nefarious tentacles and really is a sleeping giant of a problem throughout the food chain. However while glyphosate is an extremely serious issue it shouldn't be overlooked the hybridisation of modern wheat to dwarfing wheat (growth habit) also created a new protein foreign to the human body and that has had hude health implications and is in itself responsible for a massive increase in wheat intolerance. Read "Wheat Belly" by Paul Davis MD and another authors book called Grain Brain.

Unknown said...

According to that chart, why is there such a massive drop of celiac issues in 2010, while the glyphosate level hardly dropped at all? If glyphosate is so damaging to all gut bacteria, why are so many other people immune/(don't have a gluten intolerance)? I'm not really convinced glyphosate is the perpetrator we're looking for, in this case.

Laura Hall said...

I do not have "statistics," but I have direct experience. I cannot have anything with gluten, including homemade bread. I was never tested, but was am so sensitive that I assumed I had celiac disease. After a particularly bad spring (had to go on sick leave from work, went to a specialist at a hospital, had many, many tests done), I concluded that--though I wasn't consuming enough gluten to show celiac on the tests--it was highly unlikely that I had celiac. So, I labeled myself "non-celiac gluten intolerant" and continued avoiding most food on the planet. After having my gallbladder removed, however, I tried bread made from ORGANIC flour, and I am absolutely fine. I have had cookies from organic flour. Fine. You may be thinking it was just the gall bladder. Nope. I've had foods with wheat "added" and have gotten sick, since the gallbladder removal. It is traditional wheat flour. It's the Round-Up. I am switching my whole family to organic flour.

The 50% figure is as far as I can tell nonsense. 1 in 135 is hardly 50%.

The rates of use is largely irrelevant. What would actually be interesting is if exposure levels and rates were related to a rise in celiacs. But that would be too much like science rather than easy supposition.

The point about desiccation seems to be largely ignorant that only some areas of the world use it, and then only some of those use glyphosate. And let's just ignore withholding periods, etc....

The claim about the shikimate pathway comes from Stephanie Seneff. By her reckoning glyphosate causes every disease ever and also causes school shootings (but not regular shootings....). Not to mention that the Nature article linked below suggests this claim doesn't have merit.

Also, this post is ridiculous considering that we know the proteins that cause celiac problems.

I am in my 70s and if I ate wheat on a daily basis, I would be obese! I much prefer to use home grown real vegetables now and never buy highly processed foods or foods with ingredient names I can’t pronounce. Hint: these ingredients w names you can’t pronounce are usually a dead giveaway that most of the nutrition was not in the food to begin with and needed to add chemically made ingredients!
And you are wrong, people may be living longer but they are not healthy and are taking a cornucopia medicines or drugs to fake being well! So far I have escaped the medicine drug regimen of most of my peers but the danger of eating processed foods bereft of nutrients and vitamins and minerals is pushing many to earlier deaths! Do you ever read obituaries? Many much younger than I are dying early deaths, from cancers and other diseases caused by faulty foods and high uptake of pharmaceuticals in the hope of living longer? Good fresh Food used to be the path to health but no longer, as most food is purchased in ready to eat packages laden with sugar and MSG or other non prounceable names to make the food palatable?
When so many people are complaining about digestion disorders, about skin eruptions, about gaining weight and being unable to lose it on the GREAT AMERICAN ONE SIZED DIET, I would start to listen more closely! But it does really seem that MONSANTO and other corporate agricultural suppliers are not listening and are only intent on profits at expense pond the consumers long term health! Oh wait, many agricultural chemical suppliers are also attached to giant FARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES, How convenient, if the food makes consumers ill, their answer is big HARMACEUTICALS instead!
The answer does lie in the Organic movement, back to growing your own foods and AVOIDING those foods laden w glyphosates!

99% of the time it may be glyphosate poisoning, but celiac disease does exist. Back in the 70s when Herbal Essence shampoo with "wheat germ oil" was popular I could not wash my hair with anything with wheat germ oil in it because it would blister my scalp, it felt like my scalp was on fire. I thought maybe it was an allergy I'd grow out of, but 35 years later that's all my sister had in her shower (you can't bring shampoo on the plane) so I used it and the same result. I figured if it caused that much trouble on my scalp, just imagine what it's doing in my gut (takes 24 hours to pass/clear, you can't easily wash it out like on your scalp?) Celiac is a lot more serious than an allergy. I cut gluten out of my diet and I'm a lot healthier now. If you want to know if you have celiac disease and you don't like the painful/itchy allergy tests with needles and protein/serum, try the less expensive shampoo test (and if it burns wash it off your scalp right away!).

You sound like someone who does not experience side effects from eating gluten/bread 💁.

A great deal of Monsanto's products and therefore profit revolve around round-up ready seed. So, though it is not actually the round-up itself, if round-up were taken out of the picture, Monsanto would be devastated.
